University of Otago, Science 1, Science Precinct Laboratory Redevelopment

The redevelopment of the Science 1 building, involving recladding and new windows, roof and exterior design, will achieve more of a statement of the building's use for science, and service the needs of the University for the next 30 years.

The 6500m2 of primarily science laboratories is being remodelled and refurbished to the highest current scientific standards, housing a "super-lab" on the ground floor, with more laboratories, and improved airflow and ventilation, on additional floors.

A temporary laboratory will was created to enable teaching to continue whilst construction is carried out. The ground floor link between the Science 1 Lab and the adjoining Science 2 Lab are being reconfigured as a new link with the building.
