BNZ Centre Stage 2

Stage Two of the BNZ Centre is made up of a five-storey building, with mezzanine carpark. Construction of this stage commenced mid-way through construction of Stage 1, making this one of our largest construction sites to date. The larger of the two stages that make up the BNZ Centre development, this 18,600m2, U-shaped building sits in front of Stage 1. The five-storey building has a car parking area on the first floor, which is accessible from Stage 1 via two bridges. Balconies on the second, third and fourth floors overlook the central courtyard.

The project is designed to be highly accessible to the public, with numerous laneways connecting to streets and adjacent sites. A significant feature of the complex is that it has been built around a 1000m² landscaped public courtyard. The two buildings, with intersecting laneways, including three covered arcades, all fit in with the existing area, including the terrace development along Oxford Terrace, through to Ballantynes Department Store and linking back to Cathedral Square. It provides an attractive, sheltered and sunny space away from easterly winds and traffic. Perforated panels of different colours make for a colourful facade.

A challenge of this project was managing the construction of a building where the base-build requirements were constantly being changed to suit multiple stakeholders, including three large office fitout contracts and 28 retail units.
