Engineering student on summer internship
Third year civil engineering student at the University of Canterbury, Ben Ellis has joined Leighs Construction for the summer.
The 21-year-old is the recipient of the company's summer internship and is spending his three months working on company projects in particular the clearing of the Briscoes site in Salisbury St. Ben describes his experiences so far as "fantastic."
"I have worked with drillers on site carrying out SPT (standard penetration test) testing to determine the ground conditions and have also been involved with concrete pours to underpin an existing structure bordering the new building."
Gaining practical and professional workplace experience is a necessary requirement of his degree and Ben is thrilled to have been selected by Leighs this summer. Last summer he worked at Lincoln on drainage of a new sub-division.
